I got my vbac today!!

Just had to share. I came in for induction yesterday. This was a personal choice after weighing risks and benefits. I was 40+1 and honestly feeling fine. However we are moving across the country in less than a month and i was panicked about going 1-2 weeks past my due date and having to move with just a 2 week old during a pandemic.

So now to my vbac story:

I arrived at the hospital around 11:30am. I had had an Appt with my doc earlier that morning and was still 1.5cm dilated and 30% effaced. I got checked in and got the rapid Covid test, super uncomfortable but bearable. My doc was in procedures so he didn’t come til about 3:30 to get induction started with foley bulb. That going in was also very uncomfortable but again bearable. It did put a lot of pressure on what felt like my bladder so i almost immediately had to pee. I waited it out for an hour but then had to go. So they got me into the bathroom and right as I started to go, the foley fell out! 🤦🏻‍♀️ that shouldn’t have happened that quickly. The nurse checked me and I was only 2cm. So basically it hadn’t been put in all the way or something cuz it shouldn’t have fallen out that early.

Doc came a little later and said I was 2.5cm and he’d just keep me on low dose pit instead of foley again. I stayed with pit at a 4 til 8pm went to a 6, 11pm an 8, and 3am a 10. At that point, my contractions were super uncomfortable so i asked for epidural. Unfortunately the anesthesiologist had just gone down for a case so I had to wait about an hour. At 4am she came to do the epidural. Also very uncomfortable as I was contracting while it was being placed. But once I was in I was much more comfortable.

Got checked an hour later but still at a 2. The doc recommended continuing to increase pit. I ended up going up to about a 16. I started laying on my side with a peanut ball. Around 9am I felt wet down there so the nurse came to check. Sure enough my water had broken. Nurse checked dilation and I was at a 6! And more water came gushing out when she checked.

They continued to increase pit to an 18 and I kept lying on sides with a peanut ball. Next 2 hours I was feeling a lot of pressure. Nurse came in around 1130am because she thought baby was descending based on monitor readings. I told her about the pressure, she checked me and sure enough I was at 10cm!

She got things set up and around 1140 I began to push. I couldn’t lay on my back because my BP kept dropping and I felt like i would pass out. So I mainly labored on my side. Continued for 2 hours. Around 1:50 she called for my doc. He came in to do the actual delivery. I ended up having forceps used because she just wouldn’t come out no matter what I was doing. My gorgeous daughter was born at 2:07pm via vbac!

She was 22 inches and 8lbs 14oz, my big girl! Of course my csection baby had been only 7 lbs 5 Oz but the one I push vaginally was big! 🤦🏻‍♀️ But I am soooo thrilled and feel redemption after my previous csection. I am sooo glad i chose to vbac.
