Anyone not planning to breastfeed?

Ok so at 35 we had our first baby girl. We have baby boy due in October and Ill
Be 37. Not that age really matters but ya know. ANYWAY with my daughter my supply was plentiful. I was lucky. But she was preemie and had trouble latching so I pumped and bottle fed for only about 8wks. Pretty quickly I came down with wicked postpartum depression largely centered around trying to BF and pumping. I never ever want to feel the way I did again with PPD and am still on my meds for it. I do not want to nurse at all this time. But I am feeling so guilty about going right to formula which I know is fine and fed is best. But the guilt is there even though once I went to formula with my girl she was happier and I was, we all were and we finally bonded. Between knowing I have a good supply and the pressure to nurse I am just I guess looking for some reassurance or some sort of support from mommas right now. Our kiddos will be 16mons apart too and I just fee like formula would be so much better for all of us. 🤷‍♀️😞

I only plan to breastfeed for about 3-4 weeks, and not exclusively. We want to get pregnant again right away.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with your decision. #1 it’s perfectly fine regardless but  it sounds like you’ve made a thoughtful decision for the health of yourself and your family. Happy mama is best for all.

I am going to breastfeed....I did with my last daughter until she was 2 1/2.  And I know you asked if anyone was doing the opposite but because I nursed for so long I got a lot of judgment from people.  Once she was six months it was common for people to say “when are going to stop” “don’t you think she’s a little old”. But for me it was the right thing and I hated people nosing around in my business.  So, I think it’s probably similar to having people give their opinion on your choice not to.  It’s your choice.  I had two babies that I didn’t nurse at all...and they’re fine.  Honestly even if you have to make up some medical reason why you aren’t... nobody else needs to know.  People
Love to give their opinions on this with little or no regard to what you want as a mother want and what you think is best. A formula fed baby with a happy mom is better than a breastfed baby to a miserable mom with ppd IMO.  🤷🏻‍♀️ your mental health matters.  It’s not really that big of a deal.  The world won’t end if you don’t, even if some try and make you feel like the worst mom ever (not necessarily here but relatives and well meaning friends can be the worst 🙄) you and baby will be just fine.  Listen to your instincts, they are there for a reason.

Not pregnant yet, currently trying. I had a really hard time breastfeeding my 1st 2 years ago. I will never attempt it again. I will be going straight to formula.  My sister in law, which had no issues breastfeeding her 2 babies  likes to give her input and tells me I should be trying again. Ummm nope. And it gets on my nerves. Do what you want!

Whatever is best for your family- is the way to go. Let your doctor know, let the nurses know- you’ve made your decision and you’re sticking to it. Even if you decide you only want to give colostrum early on and then switch to formula- it’s your choice. I hope you feel empowered and get the support you need! 
First step is thinking it through with a clear mind- and you’re doing that.  Good luck to you and your family- I hope you have a great rest of your pregnancy and a safe labor and delivery!

I have three kids and never breastfed. I tried for a day with my first, pumped for a week with my second and my 9 week old I didn’t even entertain the idea. To each their own but I don’t have the patience or time lol.

Exactly, whatever is best for you and your kids! I have no idea what to expect with my 2nd kid but I only pumped for like 2 months for my daughter (she never latched) I just stopped producing and it broke my heart! But formula now a days is just as good as breastmilk!!

I did the same with my first at 35. I breastfed and pumped with a decent supply for about 8-10 weeks and I just couldn’t force that to be “my entire life” anymore. I felt bogged down at times, then proud, then guilt, then imprisoned lol...the roller coaster went on and on. I ultimately wanted my son to be independent as I had a few friends who were breastfeeding and still up all night at 6,7,8,12, even 24 months and I just didn’t see that as being our future. It’s what was best for us and now that I’m expecting my second in March I’m planning on offering breast milk but also combining with formula early on and whatever happens happens!! All babies, weather bf or not grow up healthy and happy! Also, my son was a huuuungry boy drinking 8oz bottles and on solids by 5/6 months 😂 so it all worked out! Next time I won’t be so hard on myself ☺️ Good luck girl! 💕

No need to feel guilty. Mom knows best and if this is what you need to feel mentally OK, then it will be best for your whole family. Baby will be well fed and that’s all that matters.
