Screwed up big time
My husband and I just went away for a night. My mom has been staying with us the last four months through lockdown and kept our toddler while we were gone.
My husband wanted to leave while she was napping, but my mom overruled his decision by letting her know AS we were putting her down that we were going bye bye.
Now she’s suffering extreme anxiety. She’s scared to go to sleep for fear we will leave her.
We should have just said goodbye to her while she was up and let her see us leave, but we didn’t.
Now my mom has exasperated the situation by letting her sleep in her arms for nap and sleep in her bed.
We got back today and tonight our toddler crawled out of her crib for the first time. She won’t stay in and she’s screaming bloody murder.
Has anyone else been through anything like this? What did you do?
We clearly made a mistake by trying to leave during her nap, but now we have to figure out what to do moving forward. Up until this point we had a toddler that slept from 7:30-7:30 and loved her bed and sleep time.
It’s breaking my heart to see her like this and it doesn’t help that my mom is rubbing it in my face.
