How long to wait?

My OB said I should wait at least one cycle before trying again after my miscarriage. Baby stopped growing at 12 weeks but we didn't find out until 16 weeks and had a d&c. I'm 3.5 weeks out, have had a follow up US and it showed my lining is building up well and I can expect a period in about 3 weeks. I know I should follow my OB's recommendations and 1 cycle isn't that long to wait, but it is feeling like an eternity and what if my cycles are really long now or irregular? Ugh... So, my question is how long did you wait and have you had a successful pregnancy since? This was my first pregnancy so we are pretty nervous for next time.
