Doula advice

Ri

I am so excited to be pregnant again. My husband and myself have a 14 month old son. I have infertility issues and miscarriages and was able to get pregnant naturally this time around. I am feeling so positive about it at just over 4 weeks.

I learned a lot when I had my son. I was high risk because of miscarriages. I have a neurological condition that affects my back legs feet bowls and bladder making me high risk. I have a spinal device. My son's heart rate would drop off and stop when I was pregnant making him high risk. I had to be induced due gestational diabetes and insulin not being able to control my blood sugars. Long story short I was high risk and our son was high risk.

What helped me when I was being induced was my amazing mom. She was all over asking questions when I was in literal shock from my blood pressure dropping. Comforting me when baby wasn't well during labor. She would run down the halls yelling for nurses when alarms were sounding off. After labor when my son was taken from me so fast. My husband was there but he mostly slept. It was 3 long days of labor and I wanted to throw shoes at him.

My mom recently has had a stroke and is permanently paralyzed. I am crying as I write this. To think she won't be there when I deliver this baby.

My husband is amazing and has been through 3 spinal surgeries with me, taken me home from a nursing home, helped me learn to walk again. But me and him both have admitted how much of a let down he was when I was in labor. I know I am going to want someone that can be there of comfort if things do not go as planned again.

Have you used a doula? What was your experience like? How did your husband react when you suggested it? What are the costs? Any other pointers would be much appreciated.
