Medication for depression

Hi all today I went to my doctor for some blood results an a general chat about my self, I have been suffering alof after an abortion which I was pretty much forced to do. The doctor said I have depression & anxiety and has asked if I wanted to go down the path of medication to help. Does anyone take these? If so does it help? Side effects? Addicitive?
