What does soft and high cervix mean? 37 weeks-baby has dropped-

Just had my 37 week appointment and I’m 1cm dilated, and then all she said was really soft and cervix was high. Baby has dropped as well. 
I didn’t get like a percentage of effacement or anything... does soft cervix mean effacement? And is a high cervix mean it’s still going to be a while? Are these good things or bad things? Lol idk!! 
I always go blank at the end and never ask questions... 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Soft cervix just means that your body is getting ready for go time! You can have a soft “favorable” cervix and have almost no effacement, or a soft cervix and be almost completely effaced. The fact that your cervix is high just means you’re generally not imminently going into labor; in early labor for most people, the cervix moves down and more towards your pubic bone than wayyyy back by your butt, which is probably where it currently is if they said it was still high.

Softening is a good thing! It means it’ll start effacing soon. When you first get pregnant your cervix is hard and high to keep baby safely in place. 
I have a naturally high cervix, they put me in weird positions during labor to lower it last time. Ideally you’d like it low and soft before labor.

This happens to me at the end of the appointment too...I forget to ask questions. I didn’t catch two things at my 37 weeks appointment last week. Does your doctors office have an online portal? I went back and reviewed her notes and saw more specific details on effacement, station and dilation. Best of luck to you!
