How did you choose an ob gyn or midwife?

Can you have a person that is basically both? I want both but I feel like it’s hard to have a clinic that has both, so do you like have to go to both places? It all seems so confusing and overwhelming! What did you do? How did you decide?

Googled the highest rated for my area and met her. Shes amazing and so are her two colleges. Shes an obgyn. I am high risk so I have to have my baby in the hospital.

My OB came so highly recommended by family and friends that had him, there wasn't even a choice. Plus he knits beanies for all his babies so that's a cool momento to have

My clinic has both. I saw the midwives and loved their care. In the event of a csection I would be transferred to the care of a dr in their clinic but my midwife would still be there for me more in the role of a doula and to assist the dr. My labor a few weeks ago went so fast that the midwife wasn’t able to get there in time so I had on of the drs deliver. She was wonderful too.

Here the standard is midwife in a hospital, with obgyn on call if there's multiples, breech delivery, or an emergency like a C-section. So I didn't really choose anything. But I must say I by far prefer the midwives I spoke to over the obgyns.

I chose an OB because they are able to do more and they have more training. I’m going to be giving birth in a hospital anyway. I don’t really see a need to have a midwife.

I think I would choose to be seeing an OB just because I would be able to know what I would be expecting later on, before and after the pregnancy. Even though midwives know what they are doing, but I believe OB knows exactly what they are doing because they are trained to do.

I lucked out finding my OB. Moved back home from Chicago and was around 28 weeks. No one would see me that late in pregnancy, except the OB one of my friends from high school referred me to and he is hands down the best doctor I’ve ever seen. I previously was seeing him and a midwife the past 5 years through their office (he is an hour drive from us, but the midwife is in town where I live) but dropped her last week. I personally chose an OB in the instance I need an emergency c section or have other complications since I am high risk.

We have a choice if not high risk. When I got pregnant my gynecologist who I’d been seeing and did my surgery is who I stuck with. He was amazing and I liked knowing he could handle whatever came up. If you want a midwife, they give you one and if you need a doctor for any issues, one will step in. You don’t really see both, though. Your insurance wouldn’t cover for you to see one and then the other each time.
