My toddler isn’t talking much, should I be worried ?

Dada, ow, hi, and bye
I'm on the fence if she says mama (thanks to my oldest it's now a game to say dada instead of mama 😒) my husband says she does but she doesn't babble or say it in any form for me to be convinced she says it. But the baby babble, her conversations are the greatest 😂👌🏻 she gets into it and it's adorable lol 
We are reading more to her, and saying words to her when she's pointing and grunting for something. Eventually it'll click to say "cup", "up", and so on.

I was told at 15 months it’s normal for them to only say 3-5 words. Between 15-18 months that number increases to about 10-20 words. I wouldn’t worry until your LO is getting closer to the 18 month mark and if they haven’t picked up more words. Even if they’re only at 8 and not quite at that 10 mark at 18 months it’s likely not a huge cause for concern because a lot of kids just don’t talk. My niece didn’t say many words at 18 months, but by the time she was 2 she was speaking in full sentences. Also remember that a lot of the time they really do pick up a ton in a short span. I have a very vocal son right now, and in the last week he’s started saying about 10 more words than he said last week... a lot of them are very similar sounding like shoe and show, go and no, etc. so once he learned how to make the main sound of the word picking up similar words happened very quickly.  
If you’re not already, read to your child, talk to them, make sure they’re watching you while you talk to them and speak slowly when you’re trying to help them learn a word and it really does help. Also, singing and music has helped my son too. Not sure if thats like a proven thing but we sing words with him every day. S ome pediatricians will recommend early intervention speech therapy at 16-18 months so you can talk to yours specifically to see if that’s a route they’ll want to take but based on the little information I know about your case I don’t know that it’ll be necessary.

We just got back from our 15 month checkup. One of my twins says dada, bye, bye-bye, mama (on occasion) and she will repeat words I say in isolation or at least try to.
My other twin really doesn't have ant words beyond "uh oh." She has said dada and mama but not with meaning. The doctor referred her to be evaluated. She is just in her own little happy world and listens/follows simple directions but doesnt yet use words. We shall see what they say.
My oldest was also referred at this age and had therapy for over a year before dismissing her.

He should be working up to about 25 “words” (that you understand/are consistent) by 18 months so there’s definitely still plenty of time. It can really boom all of a sudden. But there are strategies you can use to help - alexandrajean.slp on Instagram has some great tips for this and also goes over when you might want to seek extra support. Highly recommend

Ask about it at your 15 month appointment. My baby had no words at his 12 month appointment and the pediatrician told me he needed to have 2 words by 15 months or we’d be referred to speech therapy. In the last week he showed us his first 2 words. He says them strange, like he’s talking with something in his mouth, so my mom said they might still refer us to therapy but guess we’ll see in a few weeks.
