Stairs?

Question

Does anyone let baby move up and down the stairs freely? I am nervous. She just started using the stairs and can get up the staircase in a matter of seconds. We have a gate at the top. But do I need to put one at the bottom? I don’t want to impede her development or autonomy, but I also really don’t want her to get hurt.

My girl can handle stairs super well but we still gate the bottom and top. I dont want to have to spend all day standing at them if she has access haha

He can do both only with me watching him. He scoots down but I am a hawk 😅 when he is coming down.

No, he does not get to move up and down the stairs freely. And it infuriates him to no end. He is also very proficient at getting up but less so at getting down. He can get down but often gets too excited or tries to go too fast and goes head first. He is obsessed with the stairs so I let him sit on the first and second step but he is not allowed up. Even with me sitting next to him, he’s gone face first from the second step. I’d gate the bottom. If she can get up, she will, and if she doesn’t know how to get down, it won’t be pretty. Not to mention, it looked like one long stair case. Not even a landing so she’d only go down half the steps.

My son has been doing them since about 10/11m old.... he is 17m now and a pro 
We still don’t let him go up and down on his own 100% - we have a gate at the bottom... but when we can we open it.  He asks us when he wants to go ‘up’ and waits for us to supervise him

We gate the bottom because our little has free reign of the entire house/main floor all the time. When upstairs going to and from nap etc we let him climb as much as he wants. He halal climbs and has full access to a jungle gym outside at.  
The only reason we don’t have him going upstairs all the time is because if a door is left open he’d certainly get into mischief. We don’t want to have to lock every single thing if we can avoid it for now.

We let our guy go up and down them while supervised but the gates are closed otherwise (top and bottom). They are just way too young to understand and be careful, and a fall could kill them. Not worth the risk

we only have a gate at the bottom and he’s only allowed up them when it’s time to nap or get ready for bedtime. he figured out how to climb them before he learned to walk independently 😅

My daughter knows how to get up the steps like a champ, but down is not really a thing she seems to want to learn. So we've taught her that the steps are only something she does if Mommy or Daddy are with her. She never seems to bother trying to go up them unless we tell her its time to. The only thing upstairs are our bedrooms, so we only go up them a few times throughout the day, luckily for us it isn't a constant up and down. We don't have a gate at the bottom and don't plan on putting one in.
