Can I seriously not drink any water before my GD 3 hour blood test??

I’m so thirsty and I was told not to eat or drink after midnight. I still have several hours til the test 😟

I had mine done last week and was told I could have water up until my first draw but could not have anything until after my last draw.

Traditionally when fasting for bloodwork you can have water, plain coffee (no sugars, cream, etc) or tea (no added sugars). As a person who already has diabetes, water doesn’t affect my blood sugar at all unless it has the artificial additives in it.

I’m in the middle of my 3 hr test right now. I was told nothing but water after dinner last night, and now in between blood draws I can “sip” water, but not “gulp”. There is a doctor on break sitting next to me eating a bag of chips and I want to claws his eyes out... two more hours to go.

You can drink water. 
When I had mine done they told me nothing high in sugar, or carbs. Sent me home with a paper with those rules so I wouldn’t forget lol. Water is completely fine. The lady that drew my labs noticed my water, she thought it would mess the test up, so she went and asked the doctor and he said it was completely fine. I was nervous to eat anything though but I gotta have something on my stomach when I get up or I feel terrible, so I ate a banana on my way to the dr, drank the drink 30 mins before I got there, seen my dr then had my blood drawn and then I went and got some real food 😋🤣 My dr was an hour and a half away at the time, I recently had to switch because I moved further so I had to find a closer doctor which btw I’m not happy about at all 😒
Anyways I passed mine 🥳

For me I could have water up until the test. Once the test started (after first draw and drinking the glucose drink) I could only have 8oz an hour anything more they said could alter my test results.
