Divorce questions in Oregon
Hey everyone. Slightly long post, I’ll try to condense.
I’ve realized that my marriage is approaching it’s end. :(
I’ll spare the gorey details but I will say that we have an 11 month old daughter and I currently work from our home, which my was bought by my husband and his mother shortly before we got married. There has never been any physical abuse or anything like that...we just aren’t right for each other. :( Anyways, I’m tucking some of my money and working on finding a new source of income so I have some stability when I’m ready to leave.
I’m not ready to talk to an attorney yet but I have some questions that have been on my mind. Hoping to maybe pick your brains a bit! Bear with me....I really have NO idea what I’m in for here. This is all hypothetical, if things were to go sour (which I HIGHLY doubt they will but I want to be prepared.)
Here are my questions:
1. If I tuck money away to support myself after the divorce, is there a possibility he could try to claim that money in divorce proceedings? Should I keep it somewhere other than a bank? (I contribute to our monthly bills and we have separate bank accounts.)
2. How does it work if I want to try to buy a house for myself before the divorce is final? Would I be better off finding an apartment??
I feel like I had more questions but I can’t remember now. Lol
Any general divorce advice/things you wish you would’ve known is much appreciated! I’m pretty heartbroken right now and I don’t really have anyone to talk to about this. :(
