Would you be okay with this?

Question

I've given one of my friends gas money in return of a favor for giving me rides to school & work, but they did not spend that money on gas... If this happened to you how would you feel?

​Note: I'm currently broke at the moment and had to scrape that money up out of a coin jar and get it exchanged for bills.

If someone is providing transportation for you, you should give them some contribution even if its small, as you did. They have to keep gas in the car, but I wouldnt concern myself with what they do with the money you contributed. Its in their hands now.

They still have to spend money on gas, and I know I at least use a card to pay for gas, which means the cash you gave them is a trade-off. It's basically the same as getting cash from the ATM, your money is still paying for the gas, despite the physical cash you gave them going to something else. And if you gave them more than the gas is worth, then the rest is paying for their time. But if you're short on cash, explain that to them, see if they'll be cool with you giving them less but owing them favors. Get them a gift card now and then when you can afford it, or something :)

I've done this, when I car pooled a girl to school everyday and her parents would pay me at the end of the week. Well by that time I've already used and paid for the gas to drive her the previous days and weeks so I'd take the money and use it for other things .  Don't be mad!(: it was nice of you to pay them in the first place

I'd say it doesn't matter how the money is speny. But I totally get where you coming if someone tells me they want money for some th ing and it doesn't get used that way I feel somewhat irriated.
