My husband and I have 3 kids under 5, we are 26, we just finished paying off our college debt, and we bought a house for $355k. We are super excited and proud of our hard work, and we feel super blessed.

My mom’s neighborhood is full of $800k+ houses. She kept telling us to buy one in her neighborhood and I kept saying we can’t afford it so stop saying that. And she would keep saying it, seemingly out of spite. Idk why.

But when we told her we bought our first house, she said congratulations and asked what we bought it for and when we told her she said “I didn’t even know you could get a house so cheap in this area!”

The odd thing is, she bought her first house for $155k when she was 30 then a house for $330k when she was 36.

Just venting I guess. It’s like such backhanded comments, surface level insults. We’ve worked so hard and when our accomplishments are just discounted like that, it’s frustrating.
