Does diabetes lower sperm count?

My boyfriend and I were trying to have a baby for months nothing happened. He has diabetes and my sister (who has three kids and one more on the way) told me that him having diabetes lower his sperm count so it's harder to conceive. My daughter's dad and I only tried once and we got her. So I'm just wondering if it's thru, also my boyfriend has two other kids so I know he's capable of having kids.

Diabetes does affect fertility in men and women. But as long as he takes care of himself it should help. My husband is type 1 and we struggled a bit. But now we have a healthy 5 day old.

My husband has type 1 and we got pregnant by accident while I was on birth control. So I'm gonna say it doesn't affect it MUCH, although his doctor did warn him that with his crazy hormones that come from diabetes it could take longer (but the sperm would be healthy and potent).  Type 2, though, is caused from eating issues and that would most certainly affect fertility due to the health aspect.
