Dislike baby name husband chose
My husband (he’s Puerto Rican) is insisting on the name Urayoán for a boy. He says it’s a Taíno name and has cultural significance to him, which I understand, but I just absolutely can’t stand the name (for no other reason than I just don’t like it). Every time I try to talk to him about it he immediately shuts down the conversation and says I’m not respecting his culture or what is important to him, and that breaks my heart. I love the idea of a Taíno name or even a family name that that is important to him but I just really don’t like that one and he refuses to change his mind or come up with other options.
Am I being insensitive? How to I approach this without seeming or being disrespectful? Should I just learn to live with the name if we have a boy?
