Period during menopause?

I know the glow community is mostly younger women, but I wanted to see on behalf of my mom if anyone knows anything about your period resurfacing during menopause? My mom just turned 49 and has been menopausal for a year, but now she has a heavy flow period that she got yesterday out of the blue. Up until menopause she only really used light or regular tampons, but she’s bleeding through those so quick! Is this healthy and normal?

She may not actually be in menopause. There’s a ten year+ time called peri menopause where you experience symptoms similar to menopause like hot flashes, night sweats, migraines, irregular periods. Menopause is defined as 1 year with no period. I’m almost 42. Mine have been wonky since the virus started. 10,15,20 days late then 4, 9 days early. Got 2 periods this month.
