Is it wrong to teach your children Santa is a different race than the traditional white?

I don't remember my parents ever telling me Santa was any particular race. It's our society that gave him a skin color. I do remember when my parents told me that they were Santa, I argued that neither of them had rosey cheeks, white hair, or fat bellies.

No? He's just a symbol of giving. He isn't real/isn't a known person. Who's to say he is white?

We grew up with black and white Santas. It didn't affect me negatively.

I mean. People associate him with being a super white guy when he was Turkish/Greek. And most likely of olive/Mediterranean complexion.

I would say, teach them whatever you would like, your family, your magical Christmas story. But.... Santa is commonly portrayed as Caucasian, will they question it when they watch Christmas shows, see him in the mall and read about him in books? I'm trying to tread lightly here, but, is it not okay for him to just be Caucasian?
