Help! Shortness of breath during period...
I’ve been dealing with moderate to severe shortness of breath the week before/week of my period for what feels like forever now. It starts occurring the same time every month and goes away around when my period ends. I have had multiple breathing tests, bloodwork, chest x-Ray, abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound done.. all normal. Five years ago an OBGYN told me that I may be suffering from PMDD and said it causes anxiety levels to spike and cause panic attacks or shortness of breath. I am not sure this is it. My general doctor thought it was anxiety too - but this happens when I don’t feel anxious or overwhelmed - it just happens every month and really interferes with my day to day activities. It feels like I can not take a breath or it requires a lot to do so. Sometimes I’ll catch a “good” deep breath and it feels so much better for that second. Most recently I have had my thyroid checked and found out I have hashimotos thyroiditis. Was not given any medication for it and barely gave me any information on what to do or how to manage it. I’m learning about hashimotos but can’t make a connection to the breathing troubles. I feel like the doctors I’ve seen are so quick to think I have anxiety or depression. I currently do not take any medicine at all - I barely even take over the counter drugs. For reference, I have seasonal asthma and allergies. I am an ex-smoker but quit over 6 years ago. Has anyone experienced anything like this?
