No ring/quiet signs on your front door, tacky?

Question

I’m torn on whether or not I should make a sign for my front door that somehow politely says to not ring the doorbell to hang when baby comes. I live in a neighborhood where Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, packages, and maintenance come often. Not as often during COVID but you get the idea. My dogs freak out every time the doorbell rings.

So I’m a strong believer in baby should get used to what’s normal for us, not changing the normal for baby. My kid can sleep through the door bell, my brother in laws crazy loud voice and laugh till midnight and 2 kitchen aid mixers going all through naps and even night time, I’m a pastry chef and do cakes out of the house so the only time I can really work is when he sleeps! I got him used to it from the start and now it’s no problem. If you start from day one no noise when they sleep, they wont be able to sleep when there is noise.

I’m just putting a sign saying if you didn’t call/text first you won’t be let in. I hate people showing up normally but it’s that much worse with a new baby!
I had my husbands grandparents continuously ringing the bell/knocking when I was breastfeeding my daughter, super frustrating when they weren’t invited over 😒

I would esp when u have gotten sleep and or if you just got the baby down to sleep.

When my first was younger, I'd put a written sign and tape it over our doorbell, asking them not to ring it due to a sleeping baby/toddler. I'll be doing it again this round.

Don’t do it! My daughter was able to sleep through ANYTHING because we didn’t change a thing since they get used to the norm in the womb and if you provide a quiet home for nap time that is what they will NEED every time and you may not be able to give that to them every time. My daughter is 4 years next month and can still sleep wether there is a band playing in her room or it’s as quiet as possible. I plan to do the same with our son! And I am a nanny and have seen the stress on parents when baby doesn’t sleep because they can’t have noise. Better to start right away then have to train them later!

We have dogs a no ring sign is a must. My daughter can sleep through most noises, even the occasional bark but my Aussie barks a lot when the door bell rings. I’m going to make a fancy one this time since I have a cricut machine now.

Yep. I would do it. Just for the first little while at least. We don't get much of that here but it can be very troublesome if you have a baby that doesn't sleep well and you have just gotten them to settle and then noise wakes them up.
