Do you agree with this method?

My partner thinks it's okay to leave our child in a room downstairs whilst he goes upstairs with no baby monitor or anything (she's turning two) by herself as punishment. It didn't sit well with me, I can understand the next room. But not a different floor, god knows what she'll get up to. I just think it's extreme and unnecessary.

As punishment no. I have left the floor my child was on for literally a minute. Punishment or time out would be to sit on a chair or a stair unable to go play with toys for a few minutes.

Leaving a child alone (to potentially injure themselves) as PUNISHMENT, WTF?!?

Generally leaving a child alone, especially at that age, as punishment, is not healthy. Read up about it and perhaps share some research with him.
In addition to that, as it's already been pointed out, it only takes a moment for something to happen. Perhaps reminding him of potential dangers of doing that will change his mind.

Punishment? She is two! 😱 Def not okay. They don’t understand at that age and within a few minutes can get into anything and potentially hurt themself. Two year olds shouldn’t be punished either. Discipline is one thing, a 5 minute timeout, but I always am within a few feet from them and can see them. And then afterwards we talk about why they were in timeout.
