Is It Normal For Teens To Hate Their Parents?

I have boy girl twins who are about to turn 16 and I feel like they hate me. They stay in their room all day or go out with friends and when ever I want to spend time with them they get super annoyed at me. They don't even want to hug or kiss me anymore. I can't tell you how many times I caught them rolling their eyes at me. My husband says they're just teenagers but I truly feel like my kids hate me. They don't like eating dinner as a family. They take their food into their room. I feel like I don't know my ow kids anymore. Like I have no idea what their interests are anymore. I just feel sad that they no longer need or want me...

Yea I wouldn't take that as hate just typical teenage behavior. They are trying to grow up and be cool and be their own person and at that age parents just aren't cool if anything they are annoying. Don't try and take it personal the more you try and be involved and liked at this point the more it is just going to back fire I think. Most teens come around and have more of a friendship again with their parents when they are grown.

I feel this is when communication comes into play. Sit them down and talk about it. Maybe y’all can figure out why they would prefer being in their room over family time, make it a safe space for them to truly talk about whatever they’re feeling. Then maybe work on a family night where all the electronics and gadgets are put away and y’all do something together. Tell them how you feel without making them feel guilty just that you want to know if anything is going on and if it’d be cool to have some family time. I know as a teenager I would’ve appreciated that. When I stayed away from my mom it’s usually cause stuff was going on and I was too stressed and she never made it so I could talk to her about it, so i just stayed away till I calmed down or figured it out on my own.

Some form of emancipation is probably normal at that age. But I know that I started distancing from my mom more than usual (similar to examples you wrote) because I couldn’t talk to her about anything. Either she’d freak out, or be disappointed, or have nothing helpful to say. I remember I had friend’s mothers that I could actually talk to about boyfriend stuff, or anything else, and those friends loved spending time with their parents. I did too. It was very much my mother being hard to communicate with. I would have loved if she gave me space and respected my independence, but also share her aged knowledge with me! Given me honest and helpful advice about why a guy is acting that way, or why a friend is acting that way, and not judged me for making mistakes. I got closer with her a few years later, but I know she was sad that I distanced myself for years. Not every teenager did that. Some could stay fairly close the whole time.

Completely normal. I know that phase is really scary and heartbreaking for moms because it effects us more emotionally. 
Like the toddler phase, they are looking for their independence. Young adults don’t know how to set boundaries that good yet so they do it by acting angry all the time 😂😂😂 
The bright side, when’s the last time you had some time to yourself? Go on a date with the husband, hang with the girls!! Your kids want space and you should enjoy your space too.
Stay kind and respectful of this growth process. They will spoil you will love when they reach adulthood and look back and reflect on how they treated you 💖💖💖 hormones 🙂

This sounds like teenager behavior and I’m dreading this day with my own kids. I was like this towards my parents (but I wasn’t allowed to eat dinner in my room) and avoided them. I just wanted to be with my friends at all times. I never hated them, just didn’t want to be around them Now that I’m older, moved out, married with kids, I look back and wish I spent more time with them. I love going to their house, spending time with them and making memories with them. My parents are now my best friends. They will come around.
