Terrible Charlie horses?!

Is it common to have such awful Charlie horses? Seriously I wake up in extreme pain from them in my calves. Last night it lasted so long and wouldn’t go away! I stood up and it finally did. But now my whole calf is super sore. I sometimes feel the soreness for days after😳

Standing up and planting your foot flat on the ground as soon as you can (I know, easily said than done) is the best I’ve found for in the moment. I’ve also heard of hydration, bananas, or magnesium helping. But I’d ask the doctor before taking a supplement

yes!! terrible!! the second id wake up and try to move my legs id get instant charlie horses on my calves!!!!! and then id end up walking funny for the rest of the day!!! terrible terrible id almost cry from the pain

Oh yeah. I’ve been having them too. Sorry I have no advice on how to fix it lol I just know it’s common in pregnancy

I know everyone is saying it but seriously take magnesium. I have taken it everyday from before my pregnancy to prevent migraines, but I also have never had any Charlie horses nor restless leg this entire pregnancy. And I’m not in shape at all so I really think I’d be getting tons of cramps in my legs without it. I take the one in the photo. My Ob approved it.

Water, magnesium, going for walks or calf stretching/massage before bed all help. I suffered from them before pregnancy and making sure to stay hydrated and keep using the muscles is super important. 
Immediate relief is as someone else said: standing and flat feet. 
If sore for days afterwards, heat packs on the muscles.

I got them all the time in my first pregnancy, they would wake me up and hurt so bad. This pregnancy I haven’t gotten them as much but if I feel one coming on I bend my foot towards me and it’ll usually stop. They say it’s caused by dehydration also🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah I get them too at night sometimes. You might be dehydrated or lacking a nutrient. I find I get them if I’ve been more active than usual the day before. Best to stand up as soon as you feel it starting and it should go away. 
I think magnesium is supposed to help?

Ask your doctor if you can take magnesium, that should help! But in the meantime, standing up or straightening your leg and flattening your foot (like if you were standing) should make most of them stop. I know it’s not easy to do when you’re in that pain, but it helps!
