I made my boyfriend get tested. He was incredibly respectful about it and understood where I was coming from.

My ex was the first guy I slept with (or did anything sexual with) so I didn’t get tested before sleeping with him. tbh I probably should have made him get tested, but I was young, inexperienced, and took his word for it. He had always used condoms before me (which doesn’t always prevent diseases) but we’d been dating for 6 months at the time so I guess I felt safe enough. Fortunately nothing bad happened there but looking back it makes me shake my head. 
If you or your partner have been sexually active since your last test you should 100% get tested.

Never take anybody’s word they are “clean.” When my husband and I started dating, we used condoms until we were both tested together and shared results.
