What type of pillow should I buy for my 2 year old?

My son will be two this week and I’m in the process of surprising him with a big boy room!! 
I purchased a twin sheet set and it comes with a twin pillow case. I’m wondering if It would be safe to purchase a twin pillow for him? I’m worried about the position of his neck. Or should I just buy a toddler pillow? Thoughts?

My son is almost 3 and has been on a thin  inexpensive pillow for a couple months now. Toddler pillows are expensive and imo not worth it

My daughter is 21 months old. When she was about 17-18 months old I looked everywhere for a reasonable price toddler pillow and couldn’t find one. So I started looking for a regular type of pillow but small enough and thin enough for her. I found a travel pillow that is basically the same thing as a regular style toddler pillow at Walmart for $3.88 I think and they had allergen pillowcases with a zipper to fit for $1.88. It fits perfectly in her bed and Pack and Play with enough room for a regular size stuffed animal on each side of it. She loves her pillow. I found it on the regular bed pillow aisle and the pillowcase was with the allergen covers. Before I got it for her she had been laying her head on our pillows a lot and would say night night, relaxed, and took a couple naps so I figured we would at least try it out. I would recommend this instead of buying an actual toddler pillow due to the probability of having to replace it frequently due to anything getting on it like if your toddler would ever get sick in the middle of the night, normal toddler messes, etc. When I bought it I compared it side by side with the actual toddler pillow from the infant/toddler department at Walmart for $10.88 and there was only about a half  inch difference in size.

I bought my first a toddler pillow and he enjoyed it. Handed it down to my second and he hated it, but he loves the cheapest pillow I could find at Target.

My daughter started with a throw pillow off my couch one night when she had a cold ( around 2), then we bought her a Minnie Mouse toddler pillow for her (around 2 1/2) then we got her a big bed and a regular pillow (a little over 3).

I totally understand your question! I researched toddler pillows for weeks when my daughter way 2, but then she stole a normal pillow and slept on it one night and it stuck! I’m sure there are cases where people benefit from the toddler pillows, but I agree with others that it’s kinda just another gimmick. A regular pillow should be fine, especially since you already have the case ❤️
