Elf on the shelf?

I know it’s a little early to be thinking about Christmas, but I’m trying to decide if I want to start this tradition or not. My oldest will two in October, and I think she would really enjoy it! I’m hesitant though because I don’t know if I’ll want to continue every year. What do y’all do?

I’m considering just using toys she already has and just making it seem like “Christmas magic” brought them to life, instead of the actual elf.

I’m also not planning on doing the whole, “The elf is watching you and will tell Santa if you’re naughty” thing. I’m not a fan of that. It’ll be more “Oh, look at the cute elf that came to stay with us, look at the funny thing he did!”
