Mirena strings or expulsion ?

What are mirena strings supposed to feel like? I’m new to this birth control so I’m not sure what to look for, surprisingly my doctor never told me what to look for or any complications or risk so I’ve been doing some oft own research about the Mirena. I found out you’re supposed to do a monthly check on your strings.. I have NO CLUE what they are supposed to feel like but I tried to feel for them out of curiosity because I know your body can reject them and I’ve been having twinges of pain in my cervix (I got my mirena in August 31st I believe) . When I was feeling around I was trying to feel around my cervix because she said she made them long enough to curl up but I didn’t feel anything. I did feel something hard poking out but just barely, I was able to feel it with my fingertip. It was HARD almost made me think “the strings” were made of metal that have been cut or something. That’s the only thing I felt. If that isn’t the strings I’m concerned maybe it’s misplaced, Idk. Can anyone give me some insight I’m so confused and lost🤦🏻‍♀️😫 (and a heads up, I have called my doctors office but It was an after hours call so I’ve got to wait I until I get a call back/ have an appointment to check and see what’s going on).
