Feeding amount and times help
My baby is 7 weeks old today. He is strictly formula fed. We roughly follow this schedule:
7:00: eat 3oz
9:30: eat 3oz
12:00: eat 3oz
2:30: eat 3oz
4:30: eat 3oz
6:00: eat 3oz
7:30: Eat 3oz again (cluster feed)
9:30/10: Dream feed 2oz
9:30/10-7:00: night feeds as needed 2oz
The times may vary but basically he was eating every 2.5 hours until 430 when it goes to every 1.5 hours and then when we he wakes up for night feeds. He usually wakes up 1-2 times at night between 1-4 and then 3-6 (depending on the first time he wakes up)
He has recently been getting hungry at the 2 hour mark so we shorten the time between feeds when he is but then towards the end of the night I feel like he gets less hungry and doesn’t always finish the bottle.
How do I know when it’s time to increase his formula? Feeding every 2 hours is hard but I don’t want to over feed him. At his 1 month appt which was 2 weeks ago (8/26) his dr told us we shouldn’t even be doing 3oz because his stomach is too small for that and to only do 2oz. We tried that the day after and he was SUPER grumpy all day because he didn’t get enough! We quickly went back to 3oz. I just don’t get why she said that because he doesn’t throw it up and everything I read says he’s in the right range.
