Is your little one talking?

My baby hasn't really talked at all. He does baby talk but not actual words. The only thing he says is cat. He doesn't even say momma or dada. He knows who we are if someone asks him where is momma or something like that. But doesn't say anything. If your little one talks what did y'all do to teach him/her? I'm a ftm and not really sure how to help him learn.

My daughter doesn't say much but we just started virtual speech therapy a few weeks ago. Currently its more of the speech pathologist giving me tips on how to help & encourage her to talk more since she doesn't pay much attention being that we are working virtually. Some of the tips she has given are to read & sing songs (with motions) facing each other so the child can see your mouth moving. She also suggested using short words and phrases when you can & making silly sounds.  I repeat single words numerous times for example when she wants to be picked up i say "up, up, up" while picking her up or "run, run, run" when she is running. The big one she stressed so far is to praise our daughter when she says a word or sounds like she is trying to say something.

My daughter doesn’t say much. She thinks she’s cussing me out but it’s mostly babble. At her 18 month check up her pediatrician wasn’t concerned because she doesn’t show any delays and seems to understand everything. He said while they expect them to say more words that not all do and it’s not always cause for concern. In her case he thinks she’s just stubborn and will say more when she feels like it.

My girl talks nonstop. She even knows words like bra, panties, cotton, toner, and ladle Bc I describe everything I do lol. I suggest lots of singing, reading, and talking. I’ve been going over letter sounds with her and she seems to enjoy hearing the different sounds and trying to mimic them. As others have suggested, make sure your child is watching how your mouth moves when you talk or make sounds.

I was told by my kids’ teachers that it helps to constantly talk about what you and the kid are doing. “I am getting your shoes.“ “Thank you for coming and sitting down.” “Let’s put your cost on,” etc. Kind of like you a narrating the story of what is happening. My son speaks fine, I think, but he definitely mostly says those words that he hears from us over and over.

Mine isn’t really talking either. At her 18 month appointment, the pediatrician said to keep reading to her, talking, and singing.  She said if she hasn’t improved much in 2-3 months to call them because they don’t wanna wait until she’s 2 to intervene.

Mine says mama, dada, and Peppa. I think lately she tries to say thank you but other than that it is a lot of baby rambling. I'm also a ftm and was worried after hearing other kids were saying more but when we saw her pediatrian earlier this month he said that's normal and just five words is average at her age so that really eased my worries.

We read, sing, and talk to our son A LOT. We generally do more normal talking than baby talk. We sound out words and repeat the same word a lot. Also, whenever we are doing something, we say what we are doing.. i.e. when we are putting his shoes on we say “shoes” or when we are going to read a book we say “let’s go read a book” every single time so he gets it and will want to repeat it. There’s just a lot of repetition from what I’ve learned. But don’t get yourself down, every baby is different! When I think my son is saying a lot of words, I read another baby is saying way more and I get insecure.

My guy says a ton of words. He is starting to put 2-3 words together now.  My sisters son didnt start talking until he was 2 but once he started he was a little chatter box.  I think some kids just start on their own time when they feel ready.

I’ve always let my kids go at their own pace. My oldest was 10 months full blown talking my second was a year and a half to about 2 before she started talking . 
My 19 month old talks when he wants to. 😂 he says fish,bubbles momma dada, cat dog . And other words when he feels like it other wise he just babbles .
