Stay at home dads

Hey all, so my husband and I have been talking childcare plans after the baby is born. We live in NYC where the cost of childcare is pretty much an entire paycheck and I just read a super scary and heartbreaking story about a mom whose baby passed away his first day of childcare. So I'm not keen on leaving the kiddo with strangers and my family can't help out full time. Since I'm the one who spent a ton of time (and money) on school, we decided that I should go back to work and my husband will stay home full-time. I'm surprised at the amount of negativity we've been getting from friends and family regarding this decision. Anyone else dealt with this situation?
