Section 8 and no income

Currently not working. I have no ine to watch my son. (Parents work shift work and are never home) my bfs income is okay but we wont be able to afford rent with our bills.
My bf technically not in my household as he does not "exist" im technically a single mother. Does that make senE?
So anyway i was wondering if you can apply for section 8 even if you have no income? I dont want to do it but we need to get out of this house. Thank you and no rude comments.👍
