Is this normal of an OBGYN?

Question

I recently was diagnosed by my OBGYN with PCOS. She confirmed with blood work and ultrasounds. I had no cysts but my male hormones are high. I told her I would be interested in trying medication to try and conceive so she referred me to a fertility specialist. Is it normal for the OBGYN to not even try clomid or leterazol before referring me? My insurance covers 0% fertility treatment so anything out of the OBGYN will be out of pocket.

Yes that’s normal for many because PCOS isn’t their specialty so they’re more likely to refer you to a fertility specialist who’s more informed on the condition. 
I went to a midwife (which is what I personally recommend) who was knowledgeable about PCOS and could give me some advice, and did offer to put me on clomid or metformin if I felt I wanted it to speed up the process, but she recommended to try naturally first.

Why wouldnt that be normal? Fertility isnt an OBs specialty.

Yup that’s normal. Many OB don’t do those medicines themselves. Fertility will.

That’s odd try see a different ob/gyn! I have pcos with high male testosterones. Dr gave me clomid with my First and 2nd pregnancy.

Some do fertility meds, some do not. My OB does not and refers to fertility.
