How do you girls feel about double-barrel or hyphenated last names?

My baby will have my SO last name and my last name hyphenated.  We aren't married so that's how we've decided to do it for now.

Umm hyphenated last names are traditional, it's a very western concept to only have one last name...

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly does double-barrel mean? Or is it the same thing as hyphenated?

I'd stick to my kids having their dads last name, I wouldn't dream of giving them my last name aswel 1) I hate my last name and 2) my last name wouldn't go with their dads.

I see how this can work for some people in certain situations but it is never something I would choose for my children. My maiden name is 11 letters long, adding that would make their name ridiculously long.
