baby measuring big 😬 10 lbs???

Question

so i just had my 39 week appt. i’m due next thursday. they’ve told me baby is measuring ahead basically my whole pregnancy. doctor did a fundal height measurement of my belly and said i’m measuring 1.5 weeks ahead. he did an ultra sound and baby’s body is estimated at 41w 4 days instead of 39w 😳
doctor ordered me a formal ultra sound and he was saying if i’m having a 10 lb baby to consider scheduling a c section. i don’t want that!! i would of course do it for the safety of the baby and i if it came down to it but i would want to try labor first. 
any advice, past experiences, stories out there to comfort me? i really hope the ultra sound is not accurate. i’ve read they aren’t always accurate. one more thing- my fluid is measuring at a 4 whatever that means. but doc said that’s a good amount. maybe that’s also making me seem bigger? ugh idk.

Ultrasounds are notoriously inaccurate at measuring babys weight. People give birth vaginally and completely naturally to 10-12 lb babies all the time.
Please don't let your doctor scare you into an induction or c-section! You can just say no if their is no medical reason to do it.

They told me my baby was 8 pounds, 4 ounces at my 33 week ultrasound.  When he was born at 40 weeks, he was only 8 pounds, 8 ounces.  You never know.

I just commented on a very similar post to yours. My daughter measured 2+ weeks ahead the whole third trimester. I had biweekly growth scans because of it. At 37 weeks they pushed induction because she measured 9 pounds. I had a supportive midwife who said she sees this all the time. I chose to not do early induction and had my daughter over 41 weeks and she was 9 pounds 7 ounces. Growth scans are notorious for being super inaccurate. Go with your instinct and what YOU want for your labour and delivery. Good luck!

I was told my first baby was going to be a whopper and that we’d possibly have to have a c-section bc of it. She measured 7+ pounds at 34 weeks. When she was born at 38 weeks, she was 6lbs 14oz. My son measures a week or two ahead most visits and they told me he’d be bigger than my first baby. They were right, sort of. He was born at 39 weeks and he only weighed 6oz more than my daughter. Not saying that those measurements are always off, but my doctor and other people have told me that they are notoriously less accurate the further along you are. She (my OB) said that most times, the mother’s gut feeling on size is more accurate than those scans. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had a Csection for both of mine, but that’s because I had to. I never dialated and they were more up under my ribs the down below. My daughter was 10lb6oz at 39wks and my son was 10lb 7.7oz at 39.3wks. If you don’t want to do a Csection, asked to be induced first and see what happens.

I was told my baby was going to 7lb they day before I had him at 38 weeks and 4 days and no they were very wrong he was 9lb and 10 oz so don't ever listen to their measurements they are more than likely wrong with weight any way

I would discuss all the pros and cons with your doctor and make Sure you get statistical data. If they are really concerned about it I would definitely ask to be induced now. Were you or your husband/partner a really big baby? This matters. I will say that the ultrasounds were extremely accurate for my baby. Almost to the ounce.

I’m 37 weeks and baby is measuring 41! He’s going to be about 9.5-10lbs so I’m having a csection next week
