If I take my pill today, will I be safe to have sex with my boyfriend or not?

Did you just start today? If so then NO you are absolutely not safe to have sex without a condom. Some pills protect you right away if you start them on the first day of your period but that's it.

Some say a week, some say more, but my doctor had always told me to wait a full cycle, so a month, before going without condoms.

Read the leaflet that came with your pills, it's there for a reason.
