Xanax? 💊

Question

Had anyone tried it for anxiety? I heard it has some intense side effects and is highly addictive. I'm doing some research before I talk to my doc about it.

I have had anxiety for years. They have had me on xanax, ativan, visterol, even haldol which is not for anxiety but work for a little then eventually my body had a chemical reaction to it that put me in hospital. Visterol did nothing, xanax puts me to sleep. And made me feel sleepy all day.  Ativan worked but they didn't want to keep giving it because they said it was addictive. And switched to visterol. Therapy did help but with working I couldn't make time for it. Eventually I just said hell with it all! Picked up my Bible and prayed my heart out!! And after 7 years of it it went away! And in times when I feel it coming (stomach in knots, my heart beating out my chest , my palms get sweaty) I meditate. I haven't took anything in two years. But I have never been addicted to any of them I was just looking for relief.

I had long term anxiety not necessarily attacks. More just constant anxiety. So i took a anti depressant instead and it was a lot better than xanax. Xanax makes you fogetful and sleepy and more of a happy zombie.

All of those types of medications (Xanax, klonopin, Ativan) can be addicting.your body starts to build a tolerance. For example I started a while back taking .5mg Ativan to sleep (fast acting instead of klonopin which stays in your system longer making it harder for me to get up in the morning) But after awhile that didn't work. So I took 1mg. Then 1.5. I don't take it every day so I can't say much for withdrawal symptoms, however I have experienced withdrawal from lexapro (antidepressant/anti anxiety med) and the symptoms (for me) were awful -nausea, brain "zaps", dizziness. Definitely talk to your doctor about it and if it were me, try to stay on a low dose so stopping it, if and when needed, won't be so traumatic. Also there are a lot of non medication options to help combat anxiety. Counseling can help. Other things that have worked for me- doing something physical, jumping jacks,push-ups, sex-anything that uses all your adrenaline. Deep breathing, alternate nostril breathing, and using essential oils like lavender can help too.

I took it for my anxiety, I had no trouble when I stopped using it. The only time I took it was when I felt a anxiety attack coming on

I have, I also took Ativan. Maybe ask the doctor about trying Ativan first. It's basically the same thing, in my opinion a little more mellow. Because it's more of an extended release. Eventually the Ativan didn't work for me, and I switched to Xanax. I didn't have any side effects from either

I used it for a year for my anxiety. I only had 5mg. I would take half in the morning and half at night to help me with my anxiety attacks and help me sleep. But it wasn't addictive for me. I stopped taking it cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant and havent had any withdrawals. I wasn't aware of any side effects either. It actually helped me A LOT.

I took Xanax before pregnancy; worked for me; it wasn't hard for me to wean off because my babies health was more important. I did start seeing a counselor to help counteract the anxiety.

I took Xanax and it took me awhile to wean off of it. I told myself I only wanted to be on it for a year. So after a year, I started weaning of off it, I took it every other day for a week, then every two days for two weeks and so on. I ended up crashing off of it because I was weaning off of it too fast so by this time I thought these were signs that I was addicted to it but I was taking such a high dose that it just took awhile for my body to wean off of it. Just take it exactly how the doctor says and you should be fine. But, whenever you want to stop taking it, give yourself plenty of time to let go of it and readjust because some people take longer than others. The only side effects I had with it were very lucid dreams. If you have a nightmare, you can unfortunately see every detail of it happening and remember it when you wake up. But, at the same time, if you have a happy dream you will remember all those details too ☺️.

I take Xanax. For me it's all that works. They won't give it to you while pregnant. Even I only have access to 1 pill a month now while pregnant.

I took xanax until I got pregnant. If you take it as directed you don't have issues usually. I took 1mg twice daily. When I found out I was pregnant I weaned off it gradually over 3 days and had no ill effects. I found it quite effective and I had no unpleasant side effects
