26 weeks pregnant and the 9 hour L&D visit

**UPDATE**

So ladies I had a follow up with my OB after she received the ultrasound results of my kidneys and after speaking with the urologist. She suggested that I follow up with the urologist I saw in the hospital. Her recommendation is that in the event I do not pass the stones, because one is on the larger end, and I can no longer tolerate the pain, she suggests having the surgery to remove it over having a stent put in or another painful procedure.

Honestly I’m still so freaked out and feel like complete crap. Today was a better day, but yesterday I was almost a zombie and could barely function from the pain. I’m praying the meds they gave me will help break it up. If any of you have any recommendations to naturally break up and pass a kidney stone, please help a girl out.

I just want to make sure that my little girl is going to be safe and healthy and I’m doing everything in my power to avoid having her any earlier than we are anticipating. I’m so torn with the options I’m being given because I don’t feel that having surgery in the 3rd trimester would be the safest option, but I also know I couldn’t function at work (I’m a teacher) with a stent in my body that would have to be changed out at least 2 times before delivery.

**long post**

So I had the scariest thing happen to me yesterday. I was at work. Taught my first two classes. The day was just like any other normal morning, until go up to use the restroom and saw blood in the toilet. I immediately grabbed my phone and went to speak to my assistant principal. I was in full panic attack mode. Luckily I was able to drive to meet my husband who then drove us to my doctors office. My doctors office took me immediately did an exam and ruled out the bleeding was not from the cervix or uterus. THANK GOODNESS! The doctor suggested we go to the hospital, she called ahead to tell antepartum and L&D we were on the way.

We arrived at noon and proceeded to spend the next 9 hours in L&D waiting and trying to determine what the cause of the bleeding was, since I only want bleeding when I peed. My only symptoms were lower back pain that spans the entire back, SI joint pain, sciatic pain shooting down the right leg, and the blood in the urine. Turns out that I have kidney stones.

The same thing happened with my son at 36 weeks, but that was followed by a sudden onset of swelling. It’s insane what the body goes through.

Right now I’m not allowed to physical return to work until Friday to monitor and make sure that I in fact did pass one of the stones while in the hospital and that my pain/symptoms don’t get worse.

Ladies this is some scary stuff right here. I’m just so thankful that my little girl is nice and safe and super active! They were originally worried it was her causing this and were making plans if they couldn’t determine a cause to deliver her, if she showed any signs of distress.

Sorry if this is gross. This was the color of my urine. My doctor made me bring it to the hospital because it sounded crazy that I was peeing essentially the color of Kool-Aid.
