Are hospital hearing test accurate ?

My baby was born two days ago she got her hearing test done the first person who did it in the hospital said one ear passed the other ear failed and they wanted to redo her test in the morning before we were discharged so this other labor nurse did her test and then said both ears failed and we need to see a audiologist I asked her why last night when the lady did it one ear passed she said she did a different test but not to worry they get a lot of babies that fail their test and nothing is wrong it might just be fluid 
My baby girl reacts to loud noises and everything I have been so worried because the nurses confused me

Are they accurate, yes. The test is called an ABR, so you can do a little research. The test shows the brain’s response to sound. A sound is introduced via an ear insert. If the ears are blocked with fluid or anything (which is very common after birth, esp if you have a c section) then the sound can’t travel as well to the brain, therefore showing a loss or failed test. That’s why they have you go back to give the ears a chance to clear out.  Audiologist here.

My son failed one side the first time and passed the second time. They still told us to massage his ear when we went home. But yes I believe they’re accurate. She worked for quite awhile on it both times.

Mine failed his first two in the hospital, and then passed his 3rd after we were discharged. It’s totally normal for time to fail the first couple times. Sorry they are confusing you so much!

I wouldn’t worry to much about it until you get a second opinion from the doctor. My second failed it the first time on one side and passed in the morning. Babies have a lot of fluid and it can cause them to fail. Just take her in and have her checked out but I wouldn’t start stressing about it.

My daughter passed both of her ears but for one they ran it twice because the man doing it said sometimes the water in their ears can get in the way! So maybe that’s what she was referring to. He just moved my daughter onto her side before performing the test the second time and all worked out
