I found a good deal on the mamaroo but can't decide between it and an auto rock n' play. What would you pick?

Depends on how much the mamaroo is. I got one for $35 and someone gave us a rock n play so we have both and only paid $35. I wouldn't pay $100+ for a mamaroo and $80 for a rock n play. Buy one or the other and you can resell it and buy the other one if baby doesn't like what you buy.

My son never really cared for the mamaroo but loved the auto rock n play for sleeping at night.

If your plan is for your baby to sleep in it then definitely go for the auto rocker. It's almost silent and the mamaroo is noisy.
