Birth with Tricare?

Would you please share your experiences having your baby while covered through Tricare? I’m looking for any relevant advice/feedback/experiences you can share (good or bad). Anything you wish you had known beforehand, etc.? Husband and I are expecting our first and I would like some insight. Thanks!

Prime or select? I have select and paid nothing. It was such a great hospital off base with amazing doctors. Free meals for me and the hubs etc.

It’ll depend on where you live. Where I live, most of the civilian OBs that take Tricare aren’t in network so it’s about $450 out of pocket for all of the prenatal care and delivery. My epidural was another $120 because the anesthesiologist wasn’t in network. Circumcision isn’t covered by Tricare because it’s deemed cosmetic/not medically necessary so it’s $400-500 here I think? I can’t remember, and I wasn’t interested in doing it anyway so I didn’t pay much attention.

I’m about to have my second and tricare covered everything, including a breast pump for each “birth event”. Only thing I was told we would have to pay for would be if it was a boy (we were team green and our first was a girl) and we wanted to do circumcision. I think it would have been $150 with my previous practice out of pocket. I ended up having to have lots of scans (8) with my first due to complications and it was all covered. Only thing I can think that may not be is certain genetic testing if you don’t have a reason to take it.

I had twins almost a year ago and everything was covered. I got a random bill but just called tricare and they fixed it for me without an issue. Great experience 10/10 would recommend

There's not really much insight to give from my experience..all bills and procedures during labor and delivery are covered..just like regular appointments. If you're unsure about policy and protocol you need to contact the specific hospital you'll be delivering at.
