Do I really need compatible car seat for stroller?

New expecting mom here. I am buying the uppababby v2 stroller and bassinet. Do I really need a car seat that’s compatible? Will I really be using the car seat on the stroller if I already have the bassinet?

Had to add a recommendation to comment. No, it's not necessary. We are also getting a stroller with a bassinet and we are getting a 4 in 1 car seat instead of an infant only car seat. I've been reading about safe sleep and in reality we shouldn't be letting our babies sleep in their car seats when they're not riding in the car. Car seats are for cars. Everyone talks about how convenient it is to move the car seat to the stroller, but if your baby is asleep that's not safe for them.

Yes you will want it. The bassinet is only practical when you’re walking around your block. When your baby is asleep in their car seat you’re going to want to click them out and in the stroller. I used the Nuna Pipa, but there are other converters for other brands too.

We decided to get the travel system, it was in sale at target, ($30-50 off I believe). The reason we got it was to avoid the hassle of the car seat not fitting the stroller. We didn’t want to have to take our LO out of the car seat and into the stroller, especially if he’s sleeping or right now that’s it’s cold. He’s getting out of the hospital in winter, se we want to try and avoid exposing him to the cold winter air.

No, you don’t need one. I was glad to have one when he was brand new and I wasn’t totally confident in buckling him in properly to have it right in front of me instead of trying to do it from the side. It’s also nice for a literally 5 minute trip into the store. Other than that, we used the bassinet for walks around the neighborhood or shopping that was more than one item. The seat is nice to get them into the house when you have other stuff to carry. My guy is big, so he outgrew it’s quickly. Had I know it would only last us 6 months, I probably wouldn’t have gotten one. I will use it for the next baby because we have it, but would get a convertible to use from birth if I couldn’t use our current seat for some reason.

We’re skipping infant seat altogether this time around. It easier to just pop a newborn into a carrier IMO. Love this car seat because they can rear face longer.

It makes it so much easier when on the go to just take the car seat out and pop it on the stroller... we were kinda bummed when we moved our little guy out of the infant seat into his big boy seat. Now we have to unstrap him from the car seat move him to the stroller and strap him into that...

No, you don't need it. We never used the carseat on the stroller with any of ours. If anything it's way better for baby to lay flat in the bassinet than sitting in a car seat.

It’s not necessary, but can be convenient. Are you planning to get an infant seat at all? If you get one you might be able to buy one that’s compatible with an adapter because there are quite a few options. Uppababy Mesa, Nuna Pipa, Cybex, Maxi Cosi, Peg Perego, Clek, and even Chicco are all compatible with an adapter. I mostly used my infant seat in my stroller when I needed to pop into a store or the doctor office, but it was not necessary. With coronavirus I won’t be taking my newborn anywhere, so having a compatible car seat seems very unnecessary right now.

I’m a pediatric occupational therapist and advise parents to have infants in car seats as little as possible, because while it keeps them safe in the car, it does not put them in a good position for their development. Bassinets are a much better option! As for quick trips to the store, I got really fast at transferring my baby between the car seat and a wrap/carrier. (K’tan was great for this!)
