to me the two terms “breaking” and “losing” are different, but in the sense of trust i feel that they both provide the same meaning, but my ex begs to differ

If you broke someone’s trust you have also lost their trust. It’s a the same thing.

I agree with you.
The construct of breaking trust to me is that it happens in an instant, one act and the trust is gone.
And then the construct I have for losing trust would be the trust slowly diminishing or weakening over a period of time.
But either way, despite the descriptive words of breaking or losing, the level of trust is still gone, depleted, not what it once was.
