Help! Very dry skin and acne after switching to oil- based products!

I was so excited to switch to oil- based products. At first they worked so so so well. I was so pleased. And then, I got this TERRIBLE hormonal breakout on my jawline! Also, I can't for the life of me get my jawline to stay hydrated. It's itchy and flakey. Ever since that bad breakout, I've been using cerave's products. Any advise?

First, you could be having an allergic reaction to some of the oils...most people think that natural=better, but when it comes to skincare, that's not always the case. Watch out for fragrant oils like lavender, citrus,  bergamot, and even coconut oil, which many people can react to.
Second, certain oils don't absorb well into the skin and can actually cause dryness by preventing water penetration.
To calm your skin down, your best bet is to apply a water based moisturizer directly to damp skin (cerave cream is an awesome choice bc it has tons of humectants, which hydrate the skin). At night, directly over the cerave cream, apply a thin layer of plain old Vaseline to the entire face (avoid eye area).
It's kinda funky to have Vaseline on your face, but it won't clog your pores, and will prevent trans epidermal water loss (water evaporating from the skin).
As soon as the weather starts to get dry, I do this every night. I have acne prone skin and it actually healed my breakouts.

I swear by the Moisture Surge line by Clinique. They have different types for your skin based on oily or dry. If that’s out of your budget, I really like the CeraVe. Olay and Aveeno are good too. Aveeno has an oatmeal based facial wash that really helps my dry skin. I use it in the shower, pat my face dry (don’t rub, only pat!!) and then top it off with moisturizer.

What oil based products were you using? I switched my routine from Derma E to Averr Aglow and they are oil based but I’ve never had dry skin from them. The breakout you had could be your skin purging out all of the deep underground acne that was just waiting to come out. I really suggest their products 100%. Theyre a little pricey but they offer discount codes and a rewards program each time you shop you earn points. My skin was heinous last year until I found them, now I never break out.

Make sure you're not adding to the dryness through your cleansing routine. Google the surfactants in your face wash to see if they are considered harsh. Also 2% salisylic acid in the wash could help.

I recommend if you're going to be using oil based cleansing products to double cleanse with a great toner like this one. 
Also, I have an allergy to coconut oil and it does the same thing to my skin as well as my hair. It makes it very dry and brittle. Might be worth staying away from anything with coconut oil in it. Its just not a holy grail for everyone 😊

So I had like maybe 6 or 7 years ago switched to a Mac concealer thinking I wanted or for some weird reason needed more coverage at that time I had no skin issues maybe a pimple from time to time but nothing serious so I have no clue why I wanted to switch anyhow it broke me OUT along my cheek bones so I couldn’t figure it out! I really thought it I should attribute it to my diet so started eating much cleaner I had already drank a lot of water so kept at that and it did help but still wasn’t completely clearing anything up! So I started just washing my face with water morning and night and using tea tree oil at night and in the morning I’d put on my moisturizer one or two drops along with the same amount of tea tree oil then the make up I switched to was bare minerals and I kid you not! Maybe a week or so and my skin was completely clear of course that’s just me and all skin is different but maybe give it a shot you never know I just know it’s super frustrating and when it was happening to me I’d take any advise I could get!
