Vaccum assisted

Hello, I am currently pregnant with baby #2. I had my first appointment today and my doctor said that even though I had a natural birth two years ago (no meds) because they used vacuum assisted delivery, that I may need to opt for a c-section or plan for an early induction. Im still so early in this pregnancy but am looking for an as close to natural birth as possible again. Any tips or advice on what to say to doctors who already want to intervene with a delivery?

Nope! Your doc is incorrect...you can absolutely have a natural birth, you Amy just have to be firm. Would you ever consider home birth? They don't pressure or push you towards meds or other interventions. I just had my first baby at home and it was incredible! Also, sadly, the doc might be opting for c section bc the payout for those are WAY better and the hospitals have been struggling to get $$ with Corona virus stopping elective surgeries...👎

Yeah that sounds like a bunch of hooey. I’d consider switching providers if this doctor is already trying to schedule a c section/induction - different pregnancy = different baby. Baby could have been in a non optimal position last time, you could have just been a first time mom pushing, baby could have been a little big, or it could have just been a procedure of the hospital to use vacuum if pushing was taking too long etc. so many factors that may not apply at all to a subsequent pregnancy. I would trust your intuition and continue researching, maybe interview some new options and see if they second that dr’s opinion, and if so - why?

Totally agreed! My sister in law pushed for 5 hrs (they popped her water at 39.1 bc their doc was going on vacation so if they wanted her to deliver, they popped her early and then blamed her "trouble" on the baby being too big...he wasn't:..they also then talked abt using a vaccum/C-section. I later found out that the midwives/doulas in the area call that hospital the baby factory bc they just out babies and turn the RM over quickly. They're also a teaching hospital and since all of their new docs need to see so many vaccums/forecep/C-section births, they're quick to push those options. But they don't need to meet a natural birth quota... 😒 My advice, switch docs! Consider homebirth 😉 best of luck mama! Remember, YOU know what's best for you and your baby, trust yourself 💗

Not true. Get a new provider. Get a midwife.

Absolutely, you need a care provider who is on the same page as you. If you want a natural birth then you need someone who is sure to help you achieve that. Many interventions are carried out when they shouldn't be or could have been avoided. It may be the case for your first birth, either way, it doesn't mean your second birth should require intervention, even less a planned C-section!!
