HELP, After Benadryl, my breastmilk supply is drying. Can I get it back?

It’s 6am and I’m sad and crying. My baby is one month and my milk supply is going down. I wasn’t aware that Benadryl wasn’t a good option when nursing so I was taking half a pill before bed. I’ve been drinking water, oats, pumping, milk tea, lactation drinks and it just keeps decreasing. Does anyone have any tips for a desperate mom? I feel like a failure and angry at myself. No one at the hospital told me Benadryl was a bad option and since it was administered to my after my c section I thought it was okay to take

Just stop the benadryl and nurse your baby as often as possible. It'll come back. You haven't ruined anything. Most of all, just try to relax because stress can also decrease milk supply. And unless your baby starts losing weight, you're making just as much milk as you need to. ❤️ Hang in there, Momma

Just an FYI: So any allergy medication, decongestant, etc is meant to dry you up (mucus wise) but it affects your milk supply as well. So you want to try to avoid any of those medications as much as you can when nursing. The Benadryl after is a c-section is monitored by the doctor and you nurse to be used very short term usually only for itching. I would try to pump at least 3x a day within 15 minutes of a nursing session. Lactation teas don’t always work and sometimes can have a negative effect if you body doesn’t agree with fenugreek. For me- it has the opposite effect. I drink coconut water and it helps -also try to reach out to your OB or lactation consultant. They will be your best resource in helping your supply come back.

i would call your ob they can give you something to help lactate again at least my ob did. maybe they can help. maybe even contact a lactation consultant

Try cutting out the lactation drinks and mothers milk tea both have fenugreek which hinder a lot of women’s supply

Benadryl should only dry up your supply while it’s still active in your system. Like after the six hours (or however long it lasts), the effects shouldn’t be in your system anymore. And since you were taking it at night when I’m assuming you’re sleeping, it shouldn’t really have an impact on your overall supply. 
Other than the fact you were taking Benadryl, is there anything that makes you think your supply is going down?
