Feeding schedule for newborn??

My baby was born at 34 weeks via c section and was in nicu for two weeks ... He has fluid in his lungs when he was born due to the c section and went to nicu then he got jaundice n den he was heathy but didn't know how to suck swallow .. Anyway I was sent home with a feeding schedule. I feed him every 3 hours day and night.. I am a single mother and I only had my son for a week but I am exhausted and I am having trouble keeping up with his feeding schedule.. If I sleep an hour or two m a day it's a miracle ... Was anyone sent home with this schedule... How long did it last?? Did you keep up with it?? What did you do in the night time?? I have no one to help me n I am borderline exhausted ...

I didn't experience this personally, but I just wanted to say that you sound like you are doing an amazing job despite the exhaustion and lack of help. When we brought my son home his pediatrician told me to feed him every 2 to three hours in the day. He wanted us to wake him up from naps and everything to eat and we did. But he said that during the night if baby is sleeping to let him sleep. Your baby will always let you know when they are hungry. Especially at night. So I wouldn't stress about getting you and him up every three hours if he isn't showing signs of hunger. But since your son was early I would advise you to talk to his pediatrician about it. Keep pushing, mama! You can do this.

I had my baby at 34 weeks too and was told the same thing about feeding him every 3 hours. To be honest we did keep up
On it for the most part, waking him at night and during naps. After he was 2 months old our dr said he can go longer at night and to wait for him to wake up from hunger pains. He is now 82% for height and 56% for weight at 4 months old. I wouldn't worry too much about being that strict. I think I drove myself a little crazy with it and I'm not sure it was needed.

Nicu had my son on a feeding tube they didn't send us home without the baby eating on his own.. My son and I were sent home with a feeding schedule of 2-3 hours he is now eating every 3-4 hours because he eats more at one time.. At the beginning I pumped into a bottle to make sure he was getting what he needed now he eats off the breast and he will take a bottle whenever but the no sleep is difficult but you do what you have to do for your LO.. Eventually you will make up for the sleep that you need! Hang in there!

My son was born at 32 weeks and went home 16 days later. We were on every 3 hours as well. My doctor said to feed on demand but to not let him go longer then 3 hours... Right now I'm doing that during the day, but at night I stretch it to 4 unless he wakes up. I also was told to give him as much food as he wants, no specific amount. He gained a pound in two weeks on the schedule.

Yes we did every 2-3 hours and are still doing every 3 hours at 1 month. Stick with it and it gets better! Why are you not able to sleep more than 2 hours? Try to nap during the day if you can, although I know it's hard when you feel like you have so much to do. It will help

3 hours is a good schedule. Babies usually eat every 2-4. At night I think you can stretch it to 4 if baby is not showing signs of hunger. Do you bf or bottle?
