How do i treat newborn belly button?

My 8 day olds stump fell off but its got like puss looking stuff and a little bit of blood. Do i clean it? If so how do i go about cleaning it?

Just leave it be.  It’ll dry up and clear up on its own.  That’s definitely not infected x

My second daughters went like this...it was gooey for a few days and took longer to heal than my firsts did and I though she was going to end up with an odd belly button but now it looks completely normal 😊 we just left it and made sure it was clean 😊

When my son lost his last piece of cord it looked like that too. They just said to clean it off good and keep an eye on it for infection.

That is normal. Just leave it alone and if it doesn’t look better in a couple days I would call your baby’s doctor

Cotton buds and water usually but that looks like it’ll hurt so maybe just seek proper medical advice first (I’m a nurse and I’m suggesting you speak to a doctor as it could be infected).
