It used to be annoying to be an ey because the default spelling was ay, even though that doesn’t make sense for pronunciation. Anytime I said my name people asked “ey or ay?” But for the last 5-6 years all of a sudden people ask if it’s “Li or Ly,” I’m assuming because of the Lynn trend in names people started spelling it Lyndsey/Lyndsay more frequently.

As an ‘ay’ Lindsay, I can tell you I was always so happy I didn’t have the ‘ey’ ... Lindsey was originally a more widely used masculine name and I was told growing up that it was typically spelled with an ‘e’, where it was more feminized by using an ‘a’. I don’t know if that’s true, but if you like the name, you pick the spelling you feel best about. ☺️

I always preferred the ey ending because ay to me makes the long a sound and not a long e sound. Ay seems to be more popular though, but it just doesn’t make sense to me lol

My boss spells her name Lyndsi which I think is nice. A little bit different but grammatically correct.
