can i let baby sleep on his belly now?

baby is 3.5 weeks old. he hates being on his back. i have let him sleep supervised all day on his stomach, it’s the only way he’ll lay independently. 
he has rolled over several times from belly to back even from his nap earlier. 
is it okay?

Absolutely not. Not until baby rolls over onto his belly from his back and then you can just leave him.

My LO was a tummy sleeper from around 4 months. I always put him to sleep on his back but he would roll over himself. The recommendation I was told was to continue to put him to sleep on his back - if he rolled over himself it was fine to leave him but not to put him on his tummy myself. Also I had to stop swaddling at this stage as it’s safer if they have their arms to help them move if they need to breathe during the night.
Once he slept on his tummy he slept through the night. Before this he woke very regularly (every hour)- it was exhausting but I figured it was short term exhaustion to avoid a lifetime of guilt if something did go wrong.

I’d say as long as he is supervised it is ok. I think the reason they recommend babies sleep on their back is it reduces the risk of SIDS. If they sleep on their front they are more at risk of suffocating because if they vomit, their face will be in the vomit. It’s your decision as long as you know the risks.
