Progesterone SHOTs during pregnancy?

Hi all. Can you share your experiences taking progesterone SHOTs during pregnancy to prevent a premature birth? My ob is recommending this starting at 16 weeks, weekly shots. With my first pregnancy I had a spontaneous, premature birth. Side effects? Did these shots result in you carrying full term? Thank you

Hi! I had preterm labor starting at 23 weeks with my twins 12 years ago. I had to be on bed rest in the hospital for 10 weeks, had them at 33 weeks and stayed in the NICU for 3 weeks. With my singleton pregnancy almost 6 years ago I took the progesterone injections in the midwives office from 16 weeks- 36 weeks. They were not pleasant and I was pretty sore for a few days but I had her at 41 weeks, 6 days so I guess they worked! I’m 18 weeks now and started with the injections at home, the epipen style in the arm. They burn pretty badly and I can’t sleep on that side for a few days. I’ve also noticed some increased anxiety the day I take take the shot in the hours following. My 5 year old is perfectly healthy, so no side effects for her. I would definitely recommend it! I also get biweekly cervical length checks so that they can do a cerclage if necessary. Well done babies are way less stress than premies!

I took progesterone shots every other day because of IVF. I recommend icing the area before you inject, warm up the progesterone in your armpit or bra for 10 ish mins, inject, and then immediately warm up injection site with a heat pad for 15-30 mins so you don’t get any knots.

My fist born was premature at 34 weeks with my 2nd my ob recommended the shots and i delivered at 37 now pregnant with my 3rd child and just started taking them 2 weeks ago 😀
